Help us get rid of Paypal

October 22, 2007 - 22:28 — Laurent Haug

We are testing the LIFT08 registration and despite all our efforts and numerous emails with Paypal's customer "support" (quotes around support) we can't seem to have a form in anything else than german, as the system tries to be smarter than the user and does the magic equation "swiss user = german speaker".

We urgently need to find a way to manage payments via credit cards. Can you recommend another system? What are you using on your sites?

If we can't find another solution we will have to use Paypal again, don't let that happen!

I was going to mention Kagi

I was going to mention Kagi (www.kagi.com) - I've never used them as a merchant, but as a customer I've had good experiences. Their handling of languages and currencies seems very good.

spontaneous

spontaneous ideas:

telecash.de (german)
cybermut (french)
bibit (scotland)
datatrans (ch)

I did an implementation myself with a french bank; they have an open-source(!) payment system called Cybermut.

In general you want a system which does not require you to store any credit card data on any of your servers. All the above should qualify. Mail me for more, my battery is dyiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...

Credit card payments over the web

This is a well known problem, sigh. Truly amazing how an international company like Paypal thinks Switzerland has only one language.

And the problem is compounded by having to go though the credit-card oligopoly in Swizerland if you want to (say) use PostFinance to process credit cards. Double-sigh.

http://www.moneybookers.com/ might be worth taking a look at.

Cheers,

Ian.

P.S. There *must* be a business opportunity here! Anyone interested?

Amiando

Thanks for the link, I didn't know these guys. It seems the cavalry has arrived in the form of amiando, a cool german company who will soon manage all the payments of our european alliance.
