Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer
Kusiri
A quick (professional) biography – I also like cycling and late 80s, early 90s house and dance music. I began my research career in the MRC Centre for Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge in England. My work was focused on the themes of associative learning, episodic memory and the role that learning and memory play in drug addiction. I was asked to present the drug addiction work at the Society for Neuroscience’s annual conference in San Diego in 2004. In 2005 I was invited to take up a position in the HCI group at Microsoft Research in Cambridge to lead the empirical work investigating the hypothesis that the SenseCam could support human recall. We published our findings in the ACM Proceedings of SIGCHI 2007 and received an honourable mention in the best of CHI awards that year. Since 2000 I have offered my services in strategy and technology consultancy to financial firms in New York and the City of London. My clients include American Express, The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), Barclays, Barclays Capital, Fox Pitt Kelton and Allied Irish Bank - amongst others. At the beginning of 2007 RBS asked me to help establish a new Technology Innovation team in the Central Strategy department for Corporate Markets. The aim of the group for the director (a former Andersen consultant) and I was to establish a new evidence-based methodology for technology introduction into the bank: no more Gartner reports!* A Salesforce.com implementation was one of our major projects and the experience opened our eyes to the possibility of success for Software as a Service (Saas) in the enterprise. Now, in 2008, with two partners – the Head of Technology Innovation at RBS and a Senior Engineer from Yahoo! – we are about to embark on the launch of a Europe-wide professional services firm specialising in technical SaaS consultancy and implementation for enterprises. Web technology is under-utilised in many large corporations but they all ought to be thinking about the specialisation and economies of scale offered by SaaS. From Google Docs to Amazon’s Cloud Computing – technology ought to be getting better and cheaper for businesses. I am here at LIFT to meet more people in the community, particularly those interested in SaaS and enterprise computing – and any bright Java or web developers interested in the next wave of computing. I have published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, Journal of Neuroscience, and the Proceedings of SIGCHI. I have been an external reviewer for the Proceedings of SIGCHI for the past three years. I studied Philosophy and then Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. *That is: decisions guided by, and not made on the sole basis of, Gartner reports. Sorry Gartner. :-)
