Working as a researcher at the Manchester Business School, I am committed to Action Research; research that allows me to question and learn from the reinvention of industries and organisations through the application of new technology and business innovation.
The majority of this work has been situated within the public sector, notably the further development of a Business Process Reengineering method (SPRINT), adopted by over 200 UK local authorities, and the TALK project - an innovative new approach to knowledge transfer across high-profile change projects within the UK Public Sector. This has led to a number of both academic and practitioner publications including 'The Recovery of Government Reputation' and 'Designing the Council of the Future: A Vision for 2020'.
I am also working towards a PhD that seeks to understand the effects of social computing on large media organisations including Channel 4, Chrysalis Records, and The Guardian.
This work sits under a wider proposal to develop an Institute for Social Media (i4SM) with the Manchester Digital Development Agency, Manchester Council, and Cooperative Group.
The mix is varied and I am privileged to enjoy the company of many great people, but I am also aware that an entrepreneurial venture or two is missing from this profile, but rest assured I spend my evenings and weekends out there in the woodshed trying to build the next big thing.
